Barbi with her boyfriend Willy Bogner, Jr.
Barbara-Maria “Barbi” Henneberger was a ski racer from West Germany and based on any photo I have ever seen, a true alpine style icon. Highlights of her racing career include a bronze medal in slalom at the 1960 Squaw Valley Olympics; four medals at the 1962 World Winter University Games; and two wins and a second place at the 1963 U.S. Alpine Championships. Tragically, she was killed in April 1964 by an avalanche while filming a ski movie in Switzerland for her fiancé, Willy Bogner, Jr. While treasure hunting in Germany, I uncovered these gorgeous vintage photos of Barbi showing her at her most vital and beautiful.
